SEPPO is a Finnish educational games platform, used in education (including activities engaged in by cultural and artistic institutions) across the world. The platform offers tools for purposes of non-standard activities forming part of cultural education, such as workshops and outdoor games involving new technologies and the game-based learning interactive tool.
Participants of workshops organised at the Arsenal Gallery – The Power Plant (elektrownia) will use mobile devices (such as their own smartphones) in FOGHORN exhibition space. Once the game starts, a map of the exhibition will be displayed on the players’ mobile devices. All artefacts will be accompanied by descriptions of tasks and assignments to be completed within a specific time limit. Some tasks will involve multimedia, the ultimate outcome including e.g. a film created jointly by workshop participants.

SEPPO was originally introduced by the Arsenal Gallery as part of a free-of-charge workshop programme accompanying Anna Zaradny’s exhibition Soundless in 2018. Workshops were successfully delivered in four workshop groups (Polish- and English-language) of secondary school and university students. School and university teachers were invited to attend the sessions in the capacity of observer participants. The feedback received – from teachers and students alike – was enormously favourable. For purposes of the project, the Arsenal Gallery joined forces with the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology and the Inter-Faculty Institute of Culture and Art of the University of Białystok.

Notably, the Arsenal Gallery is the first institution of culture in Poland to use the SEPPO Finnish educational games platform for purposes of non-standard workshop activities in the field of contemporary art. In 2018, SEPPO was presented with the Bett Awards 2018 promoting creativity and innovation in education; in 2017 – with the GEES Education Award for quality and diversity of educational tools. The platform is used in educational and cultural activities i.a. in Finland, Great Britain, Brazil, the US, and Dubai.
